
YOUTH CAMP
8-10th December 2006
The Youth Leadership Program is a partnership projects between Hobson’s Bay City Council, Westgate Migrant Resource Centre, Victoria Police, Metropolitan Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Ambulance Service.
On Friday 8th of December 2006 everyone were picked up by the 44 seater bus from Hobson’s Bay City Council to Camp Kangaroobie on Great Ocean Road Princetown, and returning back on Sunday 10th of December Staff attended were;
· Jade Nolan: HBCC (Youth Service)
· Jorge Torrico: HBCC (Multicultural Services)
· Richard Dove: Vic Police (Multicultural Liaison Unit)
· Scott Sutton: Vic Police (Youth Liaison Unit)
· Con Patralis: Met Fire Brigade
· Jose Campos: Met Ambulance Service
· Simon Jaggard: Altona North Police
· Deng Akol: WMRC
The purpose of the camp was to promote youth leadership training, targeting the Sudanese, Chin, Karen and African communities. This was discussed on Friday afternoon, and leadership programs were introduced to all staff and youth.
A nightwalk was than share between staff and youth. Youth attended were from Sudanese, Karen, Chin and African. Youth woke up so early on Saturday morning they were all excited and cant wait for their canoeing and low ropes adventure . Other activities included night walking in the forest, swimming at the beach, playing soccer and cricket and visiting kangaroos.
There were different leadership sessions on the role of the ambulance, police and fire brigade, as well as the role of WMRC and other historical backgrounds.
