Phoenix Migrant Resource Centre Westage Region was formerly known as Migrant Resource Centre Westgate Region (MRCWR). It was also commonly referred as Westgate Migrant Resource Centre (WMRC).
Our centre was established in 1973 as a specialist service delivery agency for people of diverse ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds living in the then Altona, Williamstown and Werribee Local Government Areas.
In 1992, our centre joined the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) Australia Program, which marked a new and dynamic chapter in its long history. In nearly fourty years of its existence, the centre has grown and has become a focal point for migrants and refugees in need of assistance and support with a diverse range of resettlement issues. It is also a key community resource for the many community service providers in what is now the Hobson's Bay City Council Local Government Area and the surrounding area.
Our centre has developed a participative organisation with a strong reputation as a professional organisation and a major advocate on behalf of people of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. It has a proud tradition of community involvement, including volunteerism, that attests to its commitments to fair and equitable participation by all.
